Stay at Home Mom

Sometimes I think it rather funny that I am considered a stay at home mom with seven kids. I am very rarely at home. Today was different though. The Catholic school was out of school today, so no early getting around and out the door. There was a funeral at another parish so we didn't have Mass. I went to my holy hour this afternoon and when I got home took the five youngest to the park. We had a lot of fun. I always tend to think I am not very good at cleaning and keeping the house picked up, but the truth is when I am home I can get a lot done.

Wow, what a day!

Mark, my son, had to be taken to the emergency room this morning. We thought he had strep like most of the other kids, but he had an abscess on his tonsils. The doctor does not open until noon, so I thought I could go to Mass and teach my CCD class and then head to the doctor. As soon as father started the homily a friend of mine came in and said I needed to get home. I was half panicked because I thought maybe he started having trouble breathing. And of course I can't exit gracefully. I started to leave then realized I need to take Anna and Christopher with me. So I motion to them, they get up and as I push the door open, it has this amazing loud crash if you do it just so, which is just how I did it. Outside church my friend asked what to do about Mary. Oh yeah, I have another kid there too. She was serving, so we left her to go to CCD and she caught a ride home. Mark was a pretty good trooper through it all. He has lost 12 pounds though and basketball season starts in three weeks. His doctor who will take out his tonsils just happened to be at the hospital so he will make all the arrangments to get that done by the end of the week. This is going to be a crazy week I am afraid.

Bowling

Last night Mary, Anna and I went bowling with the CCD kids from our region. We had a blast. We were supposed to have Mass before, but that didn't happen so father told us to say a Rosary on the way to the bowling alley. There is something really neat about saying a Rosary with six 12 year olds in a van. Okay, it wasn't perfect, but we tried. And at one point I cracked up. There was a pickup coming towards us with a huge wooden carved statue in the back and right as the kids get to "Jesus" in the Rosary, the truck goes by and it was a statue of Jesus! Oh, and the best part is I bowled better than the kids! Well, at least the ones in my group.

Strep

A couple weeks ago Christopher was treated for strep throat. It was going around school. I took Monica on Friday to the doctor for her CP and she had just gotten a rash the night before and she had strep. Saturday I had to call the doctor for Mark and Joseph and before the doctor called back Cecelia broke out in a rash. So right now we have four kids on meds and when Mary went to bed last night she was breaking out. I never even knew you could break out with a rash with strep until I took Christopher and they asked if he had broken out. And some of them have had it before. Mark is really sick and I am afraid he is getting dehydrated, so after CCD I am going to take him to the doctor to see about a shot. Not quite what I had planned for this weekend!

It is absolutely beautiful outside

So, why am I in here on the computer? Well, Monica is taking a nap and while my house needs a good cleaning, it is at least picked up. I take Monica to a new doctor tomorrow, hopefully he will chart her progress and keep an eye on her. At Children's Mercy they found out what was wrong, but then you are kinda on your own. Which is fine, since she has such a mild case of CP, and I would not want to go to KC regularly. I also am getting info on a state program that may come to the house and give her therapy, which would save me time and money going to the therapist each week. It is so quiet here in the afternoon when all the kids are gone, but Monica. I fell asleep at the computer a few minutes ago, but the screensaver music came on and woke me up.

Storm

Saturday night I woke around 1am I think it was. Never in my life have I seen so much lightning! So close and the thunder was pretty much constant. Never had most of my kids in my bed at the same time either! I finally went back to sleep (on the floor). When I woke up again around 4:30 or 5, it was still the same. They closed the public school here on Monday.

Photo orders online

I just started ordering photos online and love it. It is so easy and quick. I use Walgreens and they have all kinds of neat gifts you can order, besides regular photos. The one thing I didn't like about my digital camera is I have tons of pics on the computer, but no photos to take or show anyone. This will make Christmas easy. I might make a family calendar with all the nieces and nephews birthdays. My mom would love that.
